No matter rigid or soft plastic extrusion products are widely used in our daily life and industrial areas. For some special applications, it is required to use extrusion parts with lightweight and weather-resistant features.
Reducing the density of plastic extrusion profiles means that the original relative density of plastic products is reduced through appropriate methods to adapt to the needs of different applications. There are three methods to reduce the density of plastic: foam modification, adding light filler, and blending light resin.
1. Foam modification: foam extrusion for plastic products is a way to reduce their density. The addition of lightweight additives and blended lightweight resin has a certain reduction in density. The low relative density can only reach about 50%.
At present, our common PVC foam products are PVC foam board, PVC foam pipe, PVC foam profile, PVC plastic foam products (sliding door board, door cover line, wallboard, etc.).
2. Add the light filler, such as PE, PP, CPE, ABS, MBS; hollow glass beads;micro-bead type filler microstructure. This method to reduce the density is also relatively low, only down to the relative density of 0.4-0.5 or so. The relative density of filler is mostly larger than that of plastic. and there are only the following varieties of filler with smaller relative density than plastic. In addition, the filler is better than calcined clay, the specific gravity is smaller than calcium powder. The price is not much different from light calcium, the oil absorption value is comparable with calcium powder.
1) Microbeads: A. Glass hollow microspheres (drift beads) with the relative density of 0.4-0.7, mainly used in thermosetting resins; B. Phenolic microbeads with the relative density of 0.1.
2) Organic fillers
A. Cork powder relative density 0.5, apparent density 0.05-0.06;
B. Fiber powder chips, cotton chips relative density 0.2-0.3;
C. Shell crops such as straw powder, peanut powder and coconut shell powder, etc.
D. Such as plasticizers, liquid internal and external lubricants, etc. The density of pure PVC is 1.4G/CM3, and 1.19~1.35 when plasticized PVC (containing about 40% plasticizers);
3. Blended lightweight materials: add low-density plastic blend, such as PE, PP, CPE, ABS, MBS; there is a lightweight filler: wood powder, which is a small fiber of the wood, very light. But there are certain limitations, according to their own use of different methods.
